Holiday Brits head to Lakes

Lake District holidays are helping people beat the back-to-work blues, a leading tourism website claims.

Bookings for Cumbria are up by nearly 700 per cent following the Christmas break. Many of these bookings are for the most popular tourist destinations such as Ambleside and Windermere, but there are plenty of Lake District bed and breakfasts to choose from.

Many accommodation directories saw a surge of visitors in early January as bleary-eyed Brits looked for inspiration for their next break. It seems that people are finding it difficult to get back into work after the long holiday break, and are trying to book their next holiday.

The cold weather may also be driving people to book holidays for the summer to make sure they will get to spend some leisure time outdoors in the warmer months.

The Lakes offer well-established holidays with exceptional countryside and seaside, and it’s obvious that people are looking to familiar and trusted destinations to ensure their money is well spent. It now seems that people would rather spend less money on a destination like the Lake District that is just as spectacular as places abroad.

A great deal of money does not need to be spent on accommodation either; it is easy to find affordable Lake District bed and breakfasts to suit the whole family.

This year’s holiday booking figures have surpassed expectations, showing that the recession is obviously not putting people off.
