Lake District paths ‘largely undamaged’
People who have booked Lake District accommodation with the intention of hiking in the picturesque surroundings will no doubt be glad to learn that many of the paths in the National Park were not seriously damaged in the floods, according to Grough magazine.
The publication reported that volunteers who have walked along the region’s upland paths have discovered that the routes are not badly damaged.
However, while many areas escaped serious erosion, there are still some sections of the walkways which require work to restore them to a good condition.
Volunteers carried out the survey as part of the Fix the Fells project, which was set up to repair seriously eroded paths and landscapes and attempt to work on a pre-emptive basis.
John Atkinson, project manager for the scheme, told the magazine: “The paths we build are designed to withstand heavy rainfall, but the work the volunteer lengthsmen carry out to maintain the paths is absolutely essential.”
Tourists and holidaymakers are also informed that most Lake District accommodation is still open for business, so the weather should not deter anyone from experiencing the beautiful National Park.

Hopefully the floods in the Lake District will not harm tourism too badly. If it does though, some of the businesses could benefit from local search marketing.
